RF 85mm f/1.2L USM DS特別加入佳能全新光學技術－DS (Defocus Smoothing) 塗膜。DS 塗膜是一種佳能獨有的氣相沉積 (Vapor-Deposited) 塗膜技術，可提供柔和而獨特的散景效果，令焦外散景的銳利邊緣變得更平滑柔和。當應用在鏡片表面時，塗膜結構可逐漸減低鏡片由中央至邊緣的透光率 (Light Transmittance) ，從而控制鏡頭進光量，藉此令焦外散景邊緣變得平滑柔和。在RF 85mm f/1.2L USM DS上，DS塗膜分別應用在光圈前、後的兩個位置，讓DS塗膜面對不同入射角度的光線都可發揮最佳效果，讓接近畫面邊緣的焦外散景亦可變得平滑柔和。

BR鏡片
RF 85mm f/1.2L USM DS為第三支配備佳能獨有BR鏡片的鏡頭。BR鏡片中加入了為有效修正色差而設的有機光學物料 -「BR藍光譜折射光學元件」(Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics)，具有能大幅度折射藍光(短波長光譜)的異常色散特性，當結合凹透鏡及凸透鏡時，能將不同顏色的光譜匯聚於同一個對焦點上，有效修正大光圈時傳統鏡片組合未能消除的軸向色差及色彩模糊，大大提升修正色邊效果，帶來更銳利細緻的高質素成像。
